Description

Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) as one nonlinear resistance element is mainly made of zinc oxide (ZnO), which has very high surge capacity and big nonlinear coefficient.

Below the threshold voltage, its resistance is very high, nearly no current flows through, but above the threshold voltage, the resistance reduces sharply, huge current can be discharged.

Due to this characteristic, varistor as a protection component in electronic and electrical equipment can absorb abnormal over-voltage and lightning surge. MOV’s unique ability to modify its resistance provides a robust shield for electronic devices against voltage spikes.

By choosing and employing MOVs, one can enhance the reliability and stability of electronic systems, ensuring that devices operate safely and effectively even in volatile and unpredictable power conditions.

1. How do the different varistor types (e.g., 5D471K, 7D431K) differ?

The types differ mainly by their voltage ratings, diameter, and energy absorption capacity. This allows each type to be suited for different applications depending on the required voltage clamping level.

2. How do I choose the right varistor type for my application?

Select a varistor with a clamping voltage slightly above the normal operating voltage of your circuit. For instance, if your circuit operates at 230V, choose a varistor with a higher clamping voltage, like the 471K models.

3. Are these varistors suitable for use with AC or DC circuits?

These varistors can be used in both AC and DC circuits, but the voltage rating must match the peak voltages of your circuit for optimal protection.

4. Do these varistors have a polarity?

No, varistors are non-polarized, meaning they can be connected in either direction across a circuit.

5. What voltage rating do these varistors support?

Each varistor type has a specific voltage rating. For example, the 471K models are designed for clamping at around 470V.

6. Are all varistors in the pack labelled for easy identification?

Yes, each type is clearly labelled with its model number for easy identification.

7. Is this pack suitable for beginners or only for experienced technicians?

This pack is suitable for both beginners and experienced users, as it includes various types for diverse applications.

8. Are the varistors individually packaged or in bulk?

The varistors are organized by type, ensuring easy access and storage.

9. How do I test a varistor?

Use a multimeter to measure resistance; a good MOV shows high resistance, while a damaged one may show a short circuit.

10. Can I purchase specific types individually rather than in a pack?

This product is sold as a complete pack, but individual types may be available separately upon bulk request.
