Description

The Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) or Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) whose resistance is inversely dependent on the amount of light falling on it, is known by many names including the photo resistor, photoconductor, photoconductive cell, or simply the photocell. The photoresistor finds many uses as a low cost photo sensitive element use in photographic light meters as well as in other applications such as smoke, flame and burglar, detectors, card readers and lighting controls for street lamps.

LDR Resistance vs Light:

When an LDR light sensor is exposed to light, the resistance reduces, this is known as dark resistance. Conversely, when resistor is exposed to darkness, the resistance decreases.

1. What’s included in this photoresistor pack?

This pack contains 50 LDR in total, with five types: 5506, 5516, 5528, 5537, 5539, 7825 and 12528 with ten pieces of each type.

2. What are the main differences between the 5506, 5516, 5528, 5537, 5539, 7825 and 12528 photoresistors?

Each type has slightly different light sensitivity and resistance characteristics, allowing for a range of applications where different light-detection thresholds are needed.

3. Can these LDR be used with Arduino or other microcontrollers?

Yes, these photoresistors are compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and most other microcontrollers, making them suitable for projects requiring light sensing or detection.

4. Are these LDR suitable for outdoor use?

While they can detect outdoor light levels, they aren’t weatherproof. If using them outdoors, consider housing them in a protective casing to shield from moisture and extreme conditions.

5. How do I test the photoresistors?

You can test them by connecting one to a microcontroller’s analog input and measuring the analog reading as light exposure changes. Alternatively, a multimeter can be used to directly measure resistance variations in different lighting.

6. Can these photoresistors detect infrared or ultraviolet light?

No, these photoresistors primarily detect visible light. Specialized sensors are required to detect infrared or ultraviolet light.

7. Are all LDR in the pack labelled for easy identification?

Yes, each type is clearly labelled with its model number for easy identification.

8. Is this pack suitable for beginners or only for experienced technicians?

This pack is suitable for both beginners and experienced users, as it includes various types for diverse applications.

9. Are the LDRs individually packaged or in bulk?

The varistors are organized by type, ensuring easy access and storage.

10. Can I purchase specific types individually rather than in a pack?

This product is sold as a complete pack, but individual types may be available separately upon bulk request.
